  • Fall front breeches became fashionable about the middle of the 18th century.  In shape, they are like fly front breeches, except for the method of front closure.  These unlined breeches have a short front rise, with the waistband fitting around the hips, under the stomach.  The shaped waistband has eyelets for a tie to fasten over a center back gusset.  The seat of the breeches is full, the legs are tight with sufficient fullness through the crotch for total freedom of movement.  The kneebands are designed for buckles.  The pockets extend under the front fall and there is a watch pocket in the waistband.

This original pattern if fashioned after 3 extant examples, in the collections of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, The National Museum of American History and The Museum of London.

Please note that breeches are time consuming to construct.  Prior sewing experience is strongly recommended.
