These jackets have a common bodice shape with similar sleeves, and differing shapes and styles of skirts/peplums. This original design incorporates elements from various extant garments. This pattern is designed to be worn over 18th Century-style stays and will not fit properly without them. Several of the extant jackets have matching petticoats.
Late 18th Century Fitted Jackets
This pattern is based on five extant garments housed in the collections of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, The Victoria and Albert Museum, and The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. They share a common bodice shape and similar sleeves, with differing shapes and styles of skirts/peplums. This original design incorporates elements from various extant garments. View A - Woman's fitted jacket with long sleeves, a low rounded neckline and a center front closure. It is finished with a ruffled peplum, pleated to the bodice. - CWF
